Sophie Davis DipFH MCFHP MAFHP trained at the SMAE Institute in Maidenhead. Her interest in problematic feet started from an early age with a type 1 Diabetic father, a GP who loved playing football and had terrible toenails! Her mum suffered from polio as a child and as a result, had numerous problems with her gait and pain in her feet.

Think Feet has full professional indemnity insurance. We are CRB/DBS checked, Members of the College of Foot Health Professionals and Members of the British Association of Foot Health Professionals.

What is the difference between a podiatrist/ chiropodist and a Foot Health Professional (FHP)?

Whoever you chose, it is important to make sure that your foot health treatment or ongoing care is undertaken by a professionally qualified practitioner whom you can trust to care for and treat your feet safely. Imagine foot healthcare as a range of treatments on a spectrum. Simple tasks like corn removals and treating hard skin sit at one end, while something more complex and invasive, such as the treatment of an infected wound or the removal of a nail would sit at the other end. Similarly, the professionals who work in foot health are qualified to perform different tasks on this spectrum.

Podiatrists/ chiropodists (podiatrist is the more up to date term - "chiropody" was officially re-named in 1993) can diagnose conditions, perform minor surgery and prescribe medication. They are also trained to deliver specialist treatment when it is needed. Foot Health Practitioners (FHPs)  work on a wide range of less specialist and less invasive procedures, as well as observe general foot health. We can treat fungal nails, hard skin, callus, verruca, ingrowing nails amongst other common complaints.

Importantly, FHPs are part of a wider community of medical/ health professionals and will refer you to a podiatrist or chiropodist where necessary.
